Episode 6 – How to Paint Your Kitchen Cabinets

Last week we finished painting our cabinet boxes.

This week we are preparing our doors and priming them.

  • Using a spray bottle, spay the TSP onto the cabinet door and scrub using a scrub pad. Be sure to wear gloves during this process.
  • Follow up by wiping down the cabinet door with water and a clean rag. This can be a bit time-consuming as you have just removed a lot of the grease build-up that was stuck on your cabinet doors.
  • Using a paper towel dry the cabinet and get off any debris left on the door’s surfaces.
  • Once you have completed cleaning both sides of the cabinet doors it is time to lightly sand them using 220 grit sandpaper.
  • After sanding you will want to vacuum any debris and wipe your cabinet doors with alcohol and a clean rag.
  • You are now ready for primer. Using a brush begin priming all the inner crevasses. Be sure to get into the corners where a roller cannot reach.
  • Once your trim work is completed using your brush. Cover your roller completely with primer for even coverage. Begin rolling your door carefully with primer to avoid any drips or splatters. After all cabinet doors are primed allow them to dry completely before moving onto the next step.
